Before a WordPress lesson, prepare your admin login (or ask for a practice site), a laptop with Zoom or Google Meet and screen sharing enabled, a list of three goals or problems, any content you want to work on (text, logo, photos), and access to your hosting account if the lesson covers setup or speed. A five-minute preparation makes a one-hour lesson feel like two.
- Test your login before the lesson.
- Write down three specific goals.
- Use a laptop or desktop, ideally with two screens.
- Have content and images ready.
- Take a backup if we will change a live site.
What is the pre-lesson checklist?
| Item | Why |
|---|---|
| WordPress admin login | We work on your real site |
| Hosting login (if needed) | For setup, SSL, email or speed work |
| Zoom or Google Meet with screen share | So I can see exactly what you see |
| Three goals | Focuses the hour on what matters |
| Content and images | We build with real material |
| Recent backup | Safety for live changes |
| Notebook or notes app | Capture steps alongside the recording |

What makes a goal useful?
“Learn WordPress” is too broad. “Add a new service page that matches my existing design”, “change the menu on mobile” and “understand why my site is slow” are perfect. Imagine a yoga teacher arriving with exactly those three goals: the hour ends with a new class page live, a fixed mobile menu and a list of speed fixes. Specific goals make visible progress.
Should you give your tutor a login?
Usually screen sharing is enough. If the tutor needs direct access, create a temporary administrator or editor account for them and delete it afterwards, rather than sharing your own password. Read WordPress user roles explained.
