2026 was Elementor’s biggest year since containers arrived. Version 3.35 (February) added Components and inline editing, 4.0 made the Atomic Editor the default for new sites, 4.1 added a Design System panel, 4.2 brought Grid and Loop to the Atomic Editor, 4.3 launched the official Elementor MCP for AI assistants, and 4.4 (in beta at the time of writing) adds Agent Ready tools that prepare your site for AI agents.
- Elementor 4.0 is a new foundation, not a facelift.
- Existing sites keep working; Atomic features are opt-in for them.
- Design systems (Variables, Classes, Components) are the core idea.
- AI moved from writing text to building whole pages.
- Test big updates on staging first.

Why version 4 matters
Classic widgets each had their own styling panel and their own fixed HTML. Atomic elements share one Style tab and output leaner markup. Instead of styling every heading by hand, you define Variables (colours, fonts, sizes) and Classes once and reuse them everywhere. Components take this further: build a card or call-to-action block once, place it on many pages and update it in one go.
For existing sites, updating to 4.x does not convert your pages. Atomic features can be switched on from the Elements panel and turned off again under Elementor, Editor, Settings, Atomic Editor.

The AI features that arrived this year
- Angie build with prompts: describe a page and get real Elementor structure.
- Elementor MCP (4.3): connect Claude, Cursor, Codex or another MCP client to build and edit pages.
- Agent Ready (4.4 beta): a readiness score, llms.txt, Markdown versions of pages and robots.txt controls for AI bots.
Should you update right away?
Update core and Pro together, and do it on a staging copy first, especially for big jumps. Check your addons support version 4, clear caches, then compare key pages on mobile and desktop. If your Elementor Pro version is far behind core, many 4.x features will not appear until Pro is updated too. Our guide to using a staging site walks through the safe process.
